Free Video Converter

Video Converter turns videos into MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV and can change the resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate. When the codecs fit the new container and the size and frame rate stay the same, streams are copied without re-encoding, a lossless remux. Batches of files are processed two at a time and can be downloaded as a ZIP.

Quick answers

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Conversion runs in your browser with WebCodecs, so your files never leave your device.

What is a remux?

When the video and audio codecs are already allowed in the new format, the encoded data is copied into the new container. It takes seconds and keeps the exact quality.

How to use the Video Converter

  1. Choose the output format (MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV) and keep “Copy streams when possible” on for a fast, lossless remux.
  2. If you want to re-encode, pick the codec, resolution, frame rate and quality or bitrate, and the audio codec.
  3. Drop one or more videos: each shows whether it can be remuxed or must be re-encoded.
  4. Press Convert, follow the progress and download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a codec greyed out?

Your browser or graphics hardware cannot encode it. H.264 and VP9 work almost everywhere; HEVC and AV1 depend on the device.

Which format should I pick?

MP4 with H.264 plays everywhere. WebM (VP9 or AV1) is smaller and great for the web. MOV suits Apple editing apps, MKV keeps almost any codec.
